Leadership

Leadership is an important aspect to every field with education and technology being no different. From various courses in the program I have learned that leadership takes place at all levels; from the classroom to the school district and even to a regional, state or national level, and is a crucial element for success.

Our main project in Evaluating Technology Outcomes (CET 720) allowed me to experience leadership at the level of the school district, as I worked with my partners to improve the evaluation portion of our school's technology plan (Appendix B).

I was able to work with leadership at the classroom level when I did my final project for Leadership in Technology Change (CET 765). The project involved selecting a class that I wanted to be a "quality" class and completed the Baldrige Criteria check sheets for each of the seven criteria: Leadership, Strategic Planning, Student & Stakeholder Focus, Information & Analysis, Human Resources Focus, Process Management, and Classroom Results. This is just a starting point and since TQM is directed towards continuous improvement I will build on the criteria from year to year.

For a final project in System Design of Instruction (LT 716), Jan and I designed a workshop for K-12 educators in which they use FrontPage to update their teacher webpage. I will use this in February when I present at our regional in-service.

In the Computer Hardware & Networking Essentials (CET 751) course I wrote a paper on the role and responsibility of the technology coordinator. This allowed me to learn about the leadership this position performs in the school district, which was interesting because our school district considered cutting this position last spring.
