Integration
When I graduated from DSU in
1998, I was confident with my abilities to integrate technology into my
curriculum. During my experiences I have found both simple and complex
methods by which to integrate technology into the curriculum. Yet during
my years in the profession and the MSET program I discovered that proper
integration (whether basic or complicated) not only motivates students to learn,
but also challenges them to use higher level thinking skills which assists in
preparing them for the real world.
Projects completed that relate to
integration: (Click on the class to see detailed information
about the class and the goals/objectives I feel I achieved
during the class.)
-
In the
Introduction to
Instructional Programming (CET 756) course, I created a
quiz for
my Algebra class that I used at the beginning of the school year when we
reviewed solving equations.
-
In
Multimedia
Production (LT 731), I used Inspiration to make a
visual aid to
assist algebra students when factoring. Patty and I also created a
video on
the inside and outside of a computer using Pinnacle. I will use the
video as part of an intro to computer hardware class I will be teaching in the
spring.
-
During my weeks at
TTL,
I developed a
multidisciplinary unit for my math classes in which students choose a
mathematician to
research
using the Internet, then write a short paper (following a given
outline),
create a PowerPoint, and present the mathematician to the rest of the class.
-
An Introductory lesson to Cryptography is
what I created during my time at
Advanced TTL.
I made a short PowerPoint to introduce the topic, and found several articles and
books related to the topic in addition to a list of
web sites.
This is just a mini-lesson that I can use in any math class.
-
When I taught Geography, I took the
Teaching with
Technology (GEOG 610) course and created several activities to supplement my
lessons using technology that was available to the school district. One
lesson I used and presented at two in-services was on climographs.
Students followed a
handout to create a
climograph
for a country of their choice and then the climographs were posted in the room
for a class discussion.
