I work with students and other stakeholders to create a high performance environment where learning is challenging yet joyful and all students meet their needs and experience success.

I will do the following:
a.  Identify stakeholders (students, parents, principal, upper math teacher, guidance counselor, and local college reps)

b.  Ask stakeholders to assist in creating a list of needs for the class

c.  When the mission statement is developed in the next step, it will be shared with all stakeholders.

d.  Ask stakeholders (mainly parents) to support students and help them meet any goals the class sets (these goals will also be shared with stakeholders).

I work with my students to develop a classroom mission statement and classroom procedures that support state, district, and school expectations.  The mission statement includes broad notions of future direction and the fundamental accomplishments we want to achieve and why we want to achieve them.

I will do the following:

a.  Share, discuss, and modify if needed the list of needs developed in the previous step (this will be done each year).

b.  Allow student to make comments and suggestions about the list of needs and make any necessary adjustments (again this will be done each year).

c.  Provide students with a condensed version of the state standards and school expectations to assist them in helping develop a class mission statement.

I involve students in developing and reviewing key measures of mission fulfillment.

I will do the following:
a.  Use class time to have students complete an affinity diagram identifying issues and experiences from previous math classes.  We will use the results to help develop the goals to accomplish our mission statement.

b.  Students will provide feedback (either with  plus/deltas or “One Minute Papers”) as we accomplish the goals we set.

c.  Charts will be posted in the classroom, showing progress towards the goals set.

The mission statement is posted in the classroom and all students and parents have a copy.

I will do the following:
a.  The mission statement will be posted in the classroom, on the class web site, and on the syllabus provided at the beginning of the year (although it may be late since it will take time to be developed).

I inspire and assist students to become involved in improving the school and community outside the classroom.

I will do the following:
a.  Encourage students to share knowledge of persons they know who use Algebra or more advanced math in which algebra was a prerequisite with their classmates.
b.  Encourage students hold a weekly after school help session in which they can help younger students with their math.
c.  Ask stakeholders who feel that algebra is used in their profession to come to the class and share their experience with the students.
